The Great Depression ( context )

the great depression affected and happened during the 1930s, it affected lots of countries, especially america ( where it started or was caused to happen ) it also affected Europe as badly .

the wall street crash happened because of a crash in the stock market . Lots of people in wall street panicked and didn’t want to lose the money they had invested , which meant all those people sold their shares , ending up being worthless . the Great depression affected all economic classes so everybody was affected by it .

The book to kill a mockingbird was set in the 1930s , when the great depression happened . The great depression is hinted at early on in the book and is obvious . This is a quote that shows this “There was no hurry, there was nowhere to go,nothing to buy and no money to buy it with , nothing to see outside the boundaries of Maycomb county .” this quote is true to what happened , nobody had any money , which meant that they couldn’t buy anything and therefore causing a pile up of useless stock that wasn’t getting sold . When scout says there is nothing to do in this quote , she probably means this because millions of people in america and around the world lost their jobs and would have nothing to do. This quote doesn’t say anything about the homelessness, which the great depression caused a lot of .

Atticus wasnt the worst affected and was probably doing better than most people, because he was still had a job , was earning money and had a home .

Louis has produced a very in depth explanation on the great depression. It is very interesting to read and louis explains how money became worthless and how everybody (including the rich) where affected. He also uses To Kill a Mockingbird in his explanation where he used the quote,“There was no hurry, there was nowhere to go,nothing to buy and no money to buy it with , nothing to see outside the boundaries of Maycomb county.” This quote shows us that To Kill a Mockingbird was set in the great depression because it says there is no where to go and no money to buy it with. This piece of work is excellent if you want to learn about the great depression and how it’s linked to To Kill a Mockingbird.
